NVCA Volunteering Opportunities – River Restoration
NVCA River Restoration Work Party
Laura Wensink from the NVCA (Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority) is requesting volunteers for a river restoration work party.
Volunteer time spent here does not go towards club member required volunteer hours!
Hello volunteer coordinators, teachers and partner organizations!
Could I get your help passing along this information about a few volunteer events happening near Alliston over the few weeks on Sept 12, 14 & 17th? We also have tree planting opportunities Sept 20, 21 and Oct 19. These are a great way for folks to make a positive impact, meet like-minded people and for students to gain volunteer hours. Let’s rehabilitate our aquatic ecosystems together!!
Wetland Planting Events
Want to help us plant wetlands? We welcome you to join us for Sept 12, 14 and /or 17th to plant wetland plants including swamp milkweed, marsh marigold, cardinal flower, sweetgrass and many rushes and sedges!
We need your help to plant native wetland plants in newly created oxbow wetlands as part of our ongoing river restoration project! These wetland plants are essential for restoring the health of the floodplain and oxbow wetlands. Your efforts will make a difference in improving habitat for wildlife and protecting the watershed. Whether you’re an experienced planter or just love being outdoors, all are welcome!
What to expect
- An orientation and tutorial
- 3 hours of outdoor activity
- We will need to cross the creek in chest waders (provided), and will be planting within a wetland, so plan to get muddy!
- This event will be canceled or postponed if there is rain or extreme weather.
